I really like the Jeep Commander for no apparent reason. It looks the right kind of rugged, not Hummer H2 brash and stupid nor plasticky bro Wrangler.

I always liked how the roof rails run down the back.Except on the trims where they’re “chrome” that shit looks hecka tacky.

I like it too. It’s a Discovery for people who don’t want to deal with a Discovery.

I had one as a rental a number if years ago. It was a decked out Overland edition and was really nice. I was surprised to see such a nice one in the rental fleet.

The best part was that I rented it in Phoenix for a week of exploring everywhere between Phoenix and the Grand Canyon. I had requested a SUV because I was planning to hit a few light trails and was hoping I didn’t get something like a Ford Freestyle since I was going to go a bit off pavement. The top line Commander was awesome off road. It had the Quadradrive II system that had electronic limited slips front and rear that worked really well off road. I ended up taking it on much more serious trails than I had originally planned. It made the trip that much better.

The biggest drawback was the third row seating, which I needed to use, is a joke. Tight for even small kids and next to no room behind the third row.

Someone has to like it - there’s always at least one. You’re it, and you can probably buy one cheap because there are few others who even know what it is.

They were defs trying to latch onto the Discovery’s coattails with that one, and I think for the most part it worked really well.

I’d drive the hell out of a Commander Overland with a Hemi. It’s one of the best looking SUVs of the 2000s IMO

Kinja'd!!!

And to think this shares a platform with the disgusting 2nd gen Durango.

I had one as s rental once. Worse car I've ever driven. If you're going to roll the dice with shitty Chrysler quality and interior, you might as well get a real off-roader.

When the family outgrows the WJ Overland I may look at one of these. They were subjected to a lot of the interior awfulness of the Daimler Chrysler era, but overall I like them quite a bit.

I bought my wife one in 2007. We needed towing capability, plus 4wd. They were expensive, but I got a leftover for almost 10k under sticker. Still have it with 130k miles. I lifted it 2" and put bigger tires on, which really helped it look more like a proper off reader instead of a mom mobile.

They were built on the same platform as the Grand Cherokee, so they were a little smaller than a suburban. I have the third row seats, but honestly they are too small for anything but a little kid. For me, the body shape works better than the Grand Cherokee of that vintage.

If you want one, the resale values are low, so you can get them for a reasonable price. Do it soon though, the 4wd models with v8 are starting to get a little scarce. I was trying to find a 2010 with lower mileage to replace my wife’s, but hard to find a 4wd in Florida.

One of the most attractive pre-cerberus chrysler vehicles money can buy. Then you open the door and are greeted by unnecessary chunkyness and bland yet gaudy interior design. Only on the high end levels is the interior acceptable because of materials quality. Despite this huge flaw, I would own an overland hemi 4x4.

A friend of mine had one and loved it. Sold it to another friend of mine who still has it and still loves it. The interior is your standard Chrysler by Fisher-Price, but you don’t really want soft touch materials in a vehicle that’s built for utility, so I don’t consider that a bad thing.
